1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information when you use Tryst:

Identity Information: Full name, date of birth, gender identity, and profile photographs (including selfies used for AI verification).

Contact Information: Email address and mobile phone number.

Profile Information: Physical self-description, personality preferences, dietary requirements, adventure level, connection goals, and ideal partner preferences (the "Avatar Builder" data).

Verification Data: Government-issued identification documents, biometric facial data collected during selfie verification, and nationally coordinated criminal history check results processed by our ACIC-accredited partner.

Location Data: GPS coordinates collected when you use the "Near Me" feature or when a date experience is being planned. We do not collect location data in the background.

Usage Data: App interactions, pages visited, features used, and session duration — used solely to improve the product.

Communications: Messages sent through the in-app pre-date chat, post-date reflections, and support requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information for the following purposes:

Matching: Your profile data, preferences, and personality signals are processed by our AI matching algorithm to identify compatible matches. We do not sell or share this data with third parties for advertising purposes.

Safety and Verification: Identity and background check data is used solely to verify your identity and screen for relevant criminal history. This data is handled by our ACIC-accredited verification partner under strict data handling agreements.

Experience Planning: Location data and dietary/accessibility preferences are used to recommend and book date experiences appropriate for both matched users.

Communications: We use your contact details to send date confirmations, countdown reminders, safety check-ins, and service updates. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time.

Legal Compliance: We may use or disclose your information where required by Australian law, including in response to valid law enforcement requests.

3. Biometric and Sensitive Information

Tryst collects biometric information (facial geometry data) during the selfie verification process. This is classified as sensitive information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988.

We collect this data only with your explicit, informed consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, which will trigger permanent deletion of your biometric data within 30 days.

Biometric data is processed by our AI verification system and is never sold, licensed, or shared with third parties except our verification technology provider, who is bound by equivalent privacy obligations.

Criminal history check results are handled by our ACIC-accredited partner. Tryst receives only a pass/flag/fail outcome — we do not store the full contents of your criminal history check.

4. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

Verification Partners: Our ACIC-accredited background check provider processes identity and criminal history data under strict contractual data handling obligations.

Experience Vendors: When a date is booked, the venue receives only the booking details (date, time, party size, dietary requirements). Your name and personal profile are not shared with vendors.

Law Enforcement: We will cooperate with valid Australian law enforcement requests. We are a registered member of the Australian Online Dating Code of Conduct and will comply with cross-platform information sharing obligations where required to protect user safety.

Service Providers: Cloud hosting, analytics, and customer support tools operate under data processing agreements that prohibit secondary use of your data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion:

- Profile data and preferences: deleted within 14 days
- Biometric data: deleted within 30 days
- Criminal history check outcomes: deleted within 14 days
- Chat messages: deleted within 7 days
- Booking and transaction records: retained for 7 years as required by Australian tax law

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

6. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.

Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention obligations.
